Audio and Ebooks
Audio books are recordings of books or other texts. They are an excellent resource as they give people access to books and textbooks that they may not be able to read easily on their own. Audio books are also a great way to assist the learning to read process and provide a method to access broad ranging vocabulary and literature. They can also help to improve literacy skills and fluency rates when used as an aid whilst reading a book.
EBooks are books or other texts presented in digital format. These can be highly beneficial for people with dyslexia because text can be altered to suit personal preferences whether this is colour, font size, or font style. Changes of formats can also be applied and the reader can access the text by using additional talking software.
- Your public library is a great place to start for free access to audio books, larger font books and other free resources.
- Within schools or tertiary institutions a year level, subject or curriculum coordinator should also be able to tell a student whether an audio book or eBook of a particular novel or textbook exists and how it can be accessed.
